A Jackie Robinson story
January 31, 1919 Jack Roosevelt Robinson was born, In Cairo Georgia. He died at age 53 October 24, 1972.
Jackie Robinson was a American baseball player who was the first African American to play in the major league.
In high school Jackie played Football, basketball, track, tennis and baseball. He won awards in the board jump, he was the quarterback in football and short stop and catcher in baseball.
In 1936 Jackie won the junior boys singles championship in the annual Pacific Coast Negro.
School and work
Jackie went from the Washington Junior High school to John Muir High School. Then to the Pasadena Junior Collage finally he went college at UCLA. Jackie was the first UCLA student to win varsity letter in 4 different sports Basketball, Baseball, Track and Football. Jackie had a military career he was assigned to the segregated Army cavalry unit at Fort Riley, Kansas. Baseball career… in 1945 the Kansas city monarchs sent him a offer to play professional baseball in the Negro leagues. Then went on to minor leagues in 1946 Montreal Royal
In 1947 Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier… you know why?
The Dodgers called Jackie up to play in the major leagues!
But because he was black lot of people sent letter that said
“If you go out on that field we will kill you!” But that didn’t stop him. Jackie played first base his initial year of the major league. On April 15, 1947 Jackie made his major league debut at Ebbets Field before a crowd of 26, 623 spectators, including 14,000 black patrons.
It dose’nt matter what size and color you are so if you have dreams witch I know you do. Let them take flight into the world you can do anything just belive in yourself I bet Jackie did.
